Pathways to Education

The 2007 Pathways to Education program is a targeted educational series provided as a courtesy for the payor community, including utilization review nurses, nurse case managers, claims professionals and others involved with claims and case management for today’s rehabilitative orthopedic patient.

In order to provide an educational forum that meets the objectives of a range of professionals, the Pathways to Education course curriculum has been developed along two tracks: Clinical Advances and Therapeutic Advances.

Each Clinical Advances course includes the following:

  • History and etiology of the specific disease state
  • Clinical examinations, tests or other diagnostics routinely performed to confirm the patient’s diagnosis
  • Advances in orthopedic and spine surgery, including a discussion of potential risks and complications
  • Orthopedic rehabilitation of postoperative or chronic pain patients
  • Routine treatment modalities prescribed

Clinical Advances Courses:

  • Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Surgery of the Knee
  • Rotator Cuff Repair (RCR) Surgery of the Shoulder
  • Clinical Advancements in Spine Surgery
  • Management of the Patient with Chronic Pain
  • Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Each Therapeutic Advances course includes the following:

  • History behind the use of therapeutic modalities
  • Clinical indications for use of these modalities
  • Competitive analysis and HCPCS coding
  • Patient application, including a discussion of potential risks and contraindications
  • Frequently asked questions about modalities

Therapeutic Advances Courses:

  • Electrical Stimulation – An Introductory Comparison of Electrical Treatment Modalities
  • Bone Growth Stimulation on Patients with Delayed Union Fractures
  • Increasing Range of Motion through the Use of Continuous Passive Motion (CPM)
  • Orthotics 101 – Discerning Differences Between Ligament and Osteoarthritic Bracing
  • Continuous Cold Therapy – A Therapeutic Primer on Cold versus Heat Therapy

Each Pathways to Education program is approved for one to two hours of continuing education credit. Courses may be accredited by CCM, CMSA, CRC and/or CDMS. Other accreditations as requested. Our speakers are local area orthopedic and spine surgeons or industry professionals with relevant clinical experience in the specific disease state. All are highly regarded in the payor community, with extensive expertise regarding clinical outcomes associated with orthopedic and spine rehabilitation.

Programs are designed primarily for presentation on-site at your office. Courses may also be held at our state-of-the-art surgical lab located in Irvine, California. Your Pathways to Education representative will arrange for all logistical considerations, including audio/visual and written materials, refreshments, speakers and certificates of completion. We are a proud member of AdvaMed, whose compliance guidelines are followed throughout the Pathways to Education series.
